The Credit Union Difference
Unlike traditional banks, credit unions are "not for profit" organizations, meaning earnings are returned to members in the form of competitive loan and savings rates, lower fees, and better service. Like other credit unions, Heritage Community Credit Union is a financial cooperative, owned and governed by its members, not paid stockholders. Each credit union member has one vote to elect volunteers to represent their interest on the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee.
Member accounts are federally insured to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), which is administered by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the Federal Government.
